Each June sees Mojacar’s famous festival of Moors and Christians. Held on a weekend close to June 10th, it is generally a three-day event. This is without doubt Mojacar’s biggest festival, partly because of the large participation from the townsfolk who prepare for this event all year long. The spectacular celebration of the peaceful submission of the Moorish stronghold to the army of the Catholic Kings, and the peaceful co-existence of the two cultures is renowned. The festival begins on a Friday with a re-enactment of the meeting between the Moorish Mayor and the Captain of the Christian troops. Then, the Moorish and Christian camps (known respectively as kabilas and cuarteles) are opened and the fiesta continues uninterrupted until the final glorious parade on the Sunday evening. In 2019, the fiesta runs from Friday 14th June to Sunday 16th June.
